Do you suffer with tummy problems? Do you have tummy pain or tummy cramps? Does your stomach swell and sometimes feel bloated or maybe you sometimes have diarrhea then are constipated a few days later? If you have any of these symptoms you are not alone. 20% of Australians have the same symptoms as you - you may be suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Women are generally more affected than men and it generally starts in early adulthood but you must not worry about any long term serious complications as it is easily treated.
There is help at hand, IBS treatment in North Sydney by Chiropractor Adam Meredith. Adam and his team have had great results in treating patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Adam says that traditional treatment generally commences following the confirmation of the diagnosis through having a medical checkup. You would probably go on to have blood tests and then tests on your bowel motion, and if your symptoms are very severe you may need to have a colonoscopy (where they look inside at your bowel while you are asleep) or what they call a barium enema (you swallow some barium and then they take x-rays of your bowel).
Adam explained that Irritable Bowel Syndrome cannot be cured with traditional treatment which of course is medication or a special diet. You will find that medical practitioners generally encourage you to increase your dietary fibre and water intake and then reduce any foods that you eat that may trigger your symptoms. You may be prescribed different drugs to treat each of the different symptoms, eg anti-diarrhea tablets for diarrhea; pain relief tablets for tummy pain; aperients for constipation, but there is no medication that cures Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
One of the latest theories is that IBS sufferers have altered nerve impulses from the gut to the brain and the brain to the gut. It is this relationship that Adam and his team aim to restore back to normal, to give relief from IBS.
Poor posture can affect the way the nerves work and this can upset the brain-gut information system. Restoring posture can return this miscommunication back to normal and help alleviate the symptoms of IBS.
Adam and his team have helped dozens of IBS sufferers at his centre.
