Neck Pain Treatment

Did you know that your neck is made up of seven bones called vertebrae all stacked on top of each other? Did you know that these vertebrae have cartilage around them to protect them and that they are attached together with this cartilage? Yes, the neck is a very delicate part of your body and needs to be looked after and this is where the team at Spine and Health, who understand the link between posture and good health, are able to assist you with neck pain treatment in North Sydney and Crows Nest. As well as diagnosing and treating your neck problems they also focus on the long term preservation of all of these intricate parts of your upper body.

As you all know, the neck is constantly moving, every minute of the day we are awake (and even sometimes when we are asleep) which means it is generally more susceptible to injury, wear and tear. Even though accidents and degenerative diseases such as arthritis are common causes of neck pain, the majority of causes are poor posture which is an area that the Chiropractors of Spine and Health can help with.

A lot of neck problems can be caused by wear and tear in everyday life. But the major cause of neck pain for most of us is from forward head posture. Poor posture causes the bones in the neck to compensate and this leads to neck pain and the increased likely hood of developing arthritis. About 95% of the population has forward head posture and this is largely due to prolonged computer use. It is not until you correct the forward head posture that you can allow the neck to heal and the pain to go away.

The best way to make a diagnosis is to do a Postural Scan and Standing Postural X-rays. Once our diagnosis is made and explained to you we set up a program to removes the cause of the pain. Then by  restoring the posture to normal limits much pressure is reduced in the neck so it can heal and function better for the rest of your life.

The Chiropractors of Spine and Health  can help with  Posture Restoration (check out the before and after photo’s) and remove the cause of your neck pain.

Determining the amount of forward head posture is the first step to recovery. Come in and get a posture scan at our North Sydney, or Crows Nest and start the process to being pain free.

Slipped Disc Treatment

Do you know what a ‘slipped disc’ is?

First of all you need to know how your body works so that it will help you understand why and how injuries happen and secondly how to stay healthy. The spine is divided into three parts: the neck (cervical vertebrae); the chest (thoracic vertebrae) and the lower back (lumbar vertebrae). These three areas are naturally curved to support the body with strong, flexible muscles and ligaments to maintain the structure. Each disc is tough on the outside with a spongy center with a constant exchange of fluids to enhance our movement.

Slipped discs most often affect the lower back (lumbar vertebrae) and are relatively rare in the neck (cervical vertebrae) and in the chest (thoracic vertebrae) sections of the spine. If we are diagnosed with a slipped disc, it doesn’t really mean that our ‘disc has slipped’ it means that the soft part of the disc bulges through the circle of the connective tissue and that is when you will need slipped disc treatment in North Sydney and Crows Nest by the Chiropractors at the Spine and Health centres.

What are the symptoms of a slipped disc? Sometimes a slipped disc can be symptom free, we don’t even know it is happening, but other times it causes a great deal of pain generally due to the pressure on the nerve roots or on the spinal cord.

In severe cases, and if you have pressure on the nerve roots, you may experience weakness up to paralysis in some of your muscles with associated pain radiating to your legs and/or arms. You may also experience a disturbance of feeling in the limbs; muscle spasms or paralysis in some parts of your body. Pressure on the spinal cord can also cause problems with control of the bladder and/or bowel.

For a lot of patients the disc pain comes on with little or no trauma or provocation. Poor posture can dramatically load up a disc creating increase strain and wear and tear. A thorough look at a person’s posture can determine if their discs are under increased strain, or if their posture is a causing their disc problems in the first place.

Did you know that forward head posture significantly increase’s the load on your lower back? For every inch your head moves forward the effective weight of the head doubles creating increased load on your lower discs! It’s not uncommon for the clients who have undergone slipped disc treatment in North Sydney and Crows Nest to have had their forward head posture reduced by up to 6 inches.

It is important to go to the appropriate people in order to make a correct diagnosis because several other diseases have similar symptoms, The team  at the Spine and Health Centres understand the link between posture, discs and health and have had great success in slipped disc treatment in North Sydney and Crows Nest.

Bulging Disc Treatment

The spinal “column” is a very strong structure, made up of 24 moveable back bones with 23 discs separating each of these bones. It is an essential structure, being the frame-work of our body, however, if we suffer from ‘disc’ problems, we feel so disabled and cannot do a thing, we can hardly move and sometimes we cannot even move off the bed.

We often hear said “I have a slipped disc” or “I have a bulging disc “or “I have a herniated disc”. What does this mean? Are they one and the same condition? These three terms are all generally interchangeable by the majority of us but have very different outcomes.

Generally disc disorders can be defined as ‘contained’ or ‘non-contained’, a disc has a very strong tough fibrous outer structure, with a softer gel like substance in the centre. A bulging disc that is a contained disc disorder, means that the soft inner gel like part, remains contained within the tough outer structure. A herniated or ruptured disc is an example of a non-contained disc which means that the soft gel inside has partially or completely broken through the tough outer layer spreading into the spinal cord and affecting the nervous system resulting in intense pain. Disc’s problems can be very serious and must be treated very carefully this is when bulging disc treatment in North Sydney and Crows Nest by the chiropractors of the Spine and Health Team is an essential step to take to alleviate your disc symptoms.

A lot of people do not even know that they have a bulging disc and can generally live with this ailment for many years without it causing any problems, whereas, others suffer from intense pain and suffer symptoms such as leg weakness, foot problems, tingling (pins & needles) sensations in the legs and even numbness in the limbs.
For a lot of patients the disc pain comes on with little or no trauma or provocation.

Poor posture can dramatically load up a disc creating increase strain and wear and tear. A thorough look at a person’s posture can determine if their discs are under increased strain.  Before Bulging Discs are treated in any of our centres a Posture Scan and Standing Digital X-rays will be taken.

Unfortunately discs are unable to repair themselves so even mild pain should be thoroughly examined and where appropriate bulging disc treatment in North Sydney and Crows Nest should be considered. The Spine and Health Centres understand the link between posture and health and have had great success in treating bulging discs and related disc problems.
